Kaag Island

The Kagerplassen water sports area is centrally located in the Randstad, between Amsterdam and Leiden. The village of Buitenkaag, the pearl of the Haarlemmermeer, is located on the Kagerplassen at the southern tip of Haarlemmermeer and across the Ringvaart is the picturesque island of Kaag.

This double village is a unique water sports area and is a true Eldorado for lovers of sailing, canoeing, rowing, water skiing, ice skating, ice sailing, etc. In Buitenkaag and Kaag there are a total of more than 150 open boats for rent. Despite all the water sports activities, Kaag exudes tranquility and the beautiful views over water and meadows invite you for a walk. In addition, it is nice to relax on the terraces on the water. There are various restaurants, water sports related companies in the double village, including sailing schools for the little ones and a playground and various overnight accommodation options.

Location, ferry and public transport

Buitenkaag/Kaag is located near the A44 and west of the A4. The island is accessible by ferry.This sails 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Public transport: De Kaag can be reached from Schiphol within an hour with a transfer. First you travel with bus number 361 towards Noordwijk. You change at Hyacinthenstraat in Lisse, where you take Neighborhood Bus 723 to Oude Wetering. Here you can get off at the Kaagpont bus stop within a few minutes.

Neighborhood bus

There is a Neighborhood Bus in the municipality of Kaag en Braassem, line 723. The neighborhood bus is a smaller bus than the well-known regional and city buses and is accessible to everyone. The local bus runs between Oude Wetering, Kaag and Lisse and the villages in between.The first bus leaves at 7:30 am on weekdays and at 9:30 am on Saturdays. The last bus leaves at 4:30 PM. The Neighborhood Bus does not run on Sundays and public holidays. You can pay with an OV chip card and a bank card. Payment in cash is not possible. All rides are driven by volunteers.
